MEMBERS of Hastings Youth Council got to have their say of crime and other related issues when they met Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), Katy Bourne last week.

Set up in 1998, Hastings Youth Council is a group run by young people specially designed represent others in their age group.

It consists of 20 Youth Councillors who make sure that decision-makers in the town have the opportunity to listen to the views of its young people when making policy.

Youth Council members asked Mrs Bourne a number of questions relating to the police in Hastings during their meeting with her.

Cllr Kim Forward, Hastings Borough Council’s lead member for housing and community services, said: “I am very pleased that Katy Bourne accepted the Youth Council’s invitation.

“Members were able to put their questions to the Sussex PCC during a long question and answer session.

“One positive outcome is that she has pledged to look at the way in which police are trained to interact with young people.”
