IN March I wrote to the Observer expressing my sadness that the Co-op store in Silverhill was closing down leaving six young adults with learning difficulties without their daily ‘work.’
The Co-op shop was a special place where the staff provided the care and patience needed for these special people.
Well, I’m delighted to say that the Premier store (which took over the Co-op in Silverhill) offered all the young people, including my son Stephen, voluntary work in their new store, helped by the wonderful ladies Mandy, Phyllis and Becca as they had in the Co-op.
Also Rama in the Londis store in Westfield offered my son a few hours of assisted work a week.
What a wonderful example of care in the community.
I am so very grateful to everyone concerned.
