Why are there no temporary spots?

I live in Warrior Square, where parking is at a premium at the best of times (considering many properties are multiple family occupancy so most addresses have two, three or more cars).

Over the past few weeks - and for some weeks to come by the sound of it – there are gas engineers in the square replacing the gas mains.

They currently have several diggers, vans and cordoned-off areas in the square which are taking up at least 20 precious parking bays, meaning finding somewhere to park is even more difficult and forcing people to use the surrounding streets, which also have no spare capacity.

At the bottom of the west side of the square is Marlborough house, which has been unoccupied now for a couple of years, outside which are a dozen or so disabled bays, which were for the purposes of ambulances and patient transport for the doctors surgeries and care residencies above. These are obviously now not necessary and are never used.

I contacted the parking enforcement number of the council to ask if these bays could be de-restricted for the duration, and was given a curt ‘no’. I tried to contact the highways number on the council website but that just redirected me back to the parking enforcement line.

Someone surely should be able to see sense and allow temporary parking while we have lost so many places to the gas engineers?
