What happened to good old bell?

How good to hear the voice of common sense from Barbara Rogers in last week’s Observer.

I am always extolling the virtues of Alexandra Park to anyone who will listen (and many who won’t!) but many of the good points are at risk if this cycle route is allowed through it. The park is a haven for families and dog walkers where it is safe for them to run and play but for every considerate and careful cyclist there are a half dozen who will take it that you should not be in their way.

I walk dogs on the shared path by the beach huts at St Leonards and have had more scares than I care to remember. I am happy to move the dogs out of a cyclist’s path but they frequently speed up from behind you with no warning–what happened to the good old bicycle bell?!

Sadly consideration for others is no longer the norm in this country and so we must ensure safety for everyone.

Please, no cyclists in the park.
