Last Saturday on a damp and windy day I went to watch my grandchildren take part in the cross country races hosted by Hastings athletic club at Bexhill Downs.
It was inspiring to see so many young people taking part, and judging by the excitement, thoroughly enjoying the experience.
So often these days young people are criticised for spending all their time on their computers but in the case of these young athletes this obviously is not the case, as they must spend many hours practising and training to reach the levels seen on Saturday.
I would like to congratulate all those who took part and say how much I admire all the trainers who give their time to encourage these young people and make events like this possible.
