The end of the pier is surely nigh

SURELY the demise of the pier is final and money spent on its rehabilitation would be much more usefully spent on the reconstruction of the Wite Rock Baths, with hot bath facilities made available to the needy.

Nostalgia for the pier is wasted, as one correspondent recently pointed out.

Also, this is the year of the Olympics and Kent County Council has received a large grant to encourage facilities for expected tourists coming to see the Games. Will East Sussex be in line for a similar grant, as Hastings and Battle must surely be strong attractions for those interested in this country’s history which is embodied here, more than in Kent and Canterbury?
