Slim pickings on the big screen for discerning audiences

I HAVE just contacted the Odeon Cinema to find our when they will be showing Contagion, Steven Soderbergh’s star-packed disaster thriller and We Need to Talk about Kevin directed by Lynne Rasay and starring Tilda Swinton, both of which are currently on release.

I was told that they are not going to be screened in Hastings.

I would not describe either of these films as Art Cinema and I am sure they would get a good audience.

It is so frustrating to read rave reviews or watch award ceremonies such as The Oscars and then find out that the best films aren’t coming to town. We have four screens at our Odeon, surely one of them could show films that appeal to a more discerning audience?

We have the great little Electric Palace in High Street but sometime it would be good to watch a film on the big screen when it is first released.

Perhaps if more of us complained, the Odeon might realise that there is an audience in Hastings for quality cinema.
