Police clueless about suspended officer

THE Chief Inspector of Hastings Police was suspended on June 7 (Observer, August 19), because it is alleged he sent an ‘offensive‘ text message.

It is nearly three months since that allegation, yet Sussex Police say their ‘enquiries are still ongoing’ and they do not know when they will be concluded. I cannot help thinking it would not be much use turning to them if one needed a good detective.

I also wonder what the cost of this protracted investigation is to the taxpayer. Tell you what. Gimme the Chief Inspector’s phone and the recipient’s phone and I’ll let them know if the allegation is true... I’ll solve the riddle.
