Park has wonders to enjoy – as well as rats

IN response to the letter in the Observer (April 8) from Allan Beard I would like to point out that many of the creatures seen around the water areas in Alexandra Park are water voles, which we are very lucky to have along with so much other wonderful wildlife for both children and adults to learn about.

It is such a shame that ignorance of this sort will deter some people from using one of Hastings’s greatest attributes, something which many towns would like to possess.

Yes, there are rats but they are a natural part of wildlife and it would be difficult to remove them without damaging other wildlife.

Please do not denigrate this wonderful park in ignorance but enjoy its wonders.
