More research needs to be done

We carry on objecting to cycling in the park as we feel that very little research has been done in studying the probable conflict that this may bring between pedestrians and cyclists.

An article in Saturday’s Daily Mail highlights the possible problems that can occur.

Cyclists are the first to complain about the dangers of other road users, now they appear to be just as guilty.

A busy London park is spending tens of thousands of pounds on a scheme to curb their speeding.

Cyclists were recorded tearing around at up to 20mph in Mount Walk, Kensington Gardens – causing dozens of near misses between cyclists and pedestrians. A series of rumble strips of Cobble Stones are now being installed by London Parks to stop conflicts near the walkway’s junctions used by up to 900 bikers an hour at peak times .

Cycle campaign group consider that implementing this scheme should have been a last option.

Obviously , we do not have the number of cyclists using our roads and pathways, but those who currently use our pavements currently expect pedestrians to give way to them as they hurtle up behind us.

They do not give any warning, they can’t they have no bells fitted.
