Finally the last link in the annual musical events chain for our town has been forged by the generous effort of Hastings Winkle Club.
The idea of a Jazz Festival for Hastings, possibly northern Europe linked, was mooted over ten years ago and on Sunday afternoon in particular, towns folk were feasted with an excellent programme of performances.
Regrettably, the event was heralded on Saturday evening with an improvised Musique Concrete performance by two over-amplified and screeching non-entertaining musicians, apparently selected by one of Hastings Borough Council staff.
Such narrowly attractive music was not the best way to launch a major new festival for the average music follower.
Curiously, also on Saturday evening, Eat@The Stade was closed, (they were not aware of the planned event) and no tea or coffee arrangements were available in the fenced off performance area for non-alcoholic consumers.
The set up for the event, its costs etc would have merited an additional Friday night performance, a popular evening for Hastonians night out. It would give greater prominence to the event.
