First of all I would like to express my deepest sympathy for John’s family.
The Labour group of councillors, Hastings Borough Council and the people that he represented have lost a good, honest friend and a great campaigner. John was a wonderful councillor, he was totally committed to the ward he represented and town as a whole.
Before he became a councillor, John had a successful career in engineering.
As a former engineer myself, he and I had much in common. Having spent his working life in such a competitive industry where mistakes are not easily tolerated, this influenced his no-nonsense approach to politics and gave him a keen eye for detail.
John was a very kind man of great substance and I will miss him very much.
