I CANNOT believe the amount of negativity directed to the Jerwood Gallery by residents and non-residents. This gallery cost the town nothing. Locals can get in cheap, the £7 entry for non-locals like myself is less than the cost of admission to a football match at Hastings United and would not buy two packets of fags.
It is on a site that was a coach park and apart from being sensitively designed is hardly a large dominant building.
The old Hastings bucket and spade holiday trade has been dying since the 1970s possibly earlier, like many seaside towns it has to find ways to reinvent itself and trade on its excellent location.
Those critics are merely burying their heads in the pebbles.
