Female councillor present at meeting

IN response to Patricia Stephenson’s letter (Observer, May 25) regarding the make-up of the new Hastings Borough Council planning committee, she said, ‘...the newly-formed planning committee does not have a single female councillor on board’. She is mistaken.

Newly-elected councillor Judy Rogers is on the planning committee and was present at the last meeting in the council chamber. A number of our female councillors are in the cabinet, which means that they cannot also sit on the planning committee.

She also said: ‘It has not gone unnoticed that several new boys on the block have been given a place on this committee’ – this is also not correct.

Two newly-elected councillors are on the committee – one man, one woman.
