Fairer deal needed for commuters

I wholeheartedly back the Observer’s campaign for fare deals for rail users.

Train fares are ridiculously high, with appalling service and the current franchise system is a farce.

The fact that Southern and Southeastern are actually part of the same parent company - Govia - means that customers in Hastings and Rye have no real choice. We need a cap on fares and for greater public ownership of our railways, which will go a long way to achieving a fair deal for all.
