I am greatly opposed to ‘self-management’ of allotments, and see it as a pathway to privatisation.
I want my contract to remain with the local authority, which has a legal duty to provide the service.
At our AGM yesterday, there were noises implying that HBC would push us into self-management with the threat of bringing in private operators if this wasn’t done.
This year I paid £34.60 for my plot, or 66p per week.
I would pay £5 per week (£260 p.a.) and consider this fair and reasonable.
Multiply this by the number of allotment plots administered by HBC, and you Would make a considerable increase in income, thus safeguarding the allotments and officers’ jobs for the future.
Anyone who seriously wants an allotment would find this cheap at the price.
