Councillors need to stop making excuses

IT hasn’t passed my notice that councillors Birch and Chowney are very much eager to blame Government for a lack of support for our town.

Let’s leave the old arguments to one side for a moment and consider the following:

The town didn’t stop still in its tracks on May 6, 2010. Hastings has not been preserved in aspic.

There is still clear investment coming into Hastings: Two new schools are under construction, there is on going development of the Priory Square area, the Jerwood Gallery is soon to be unleashed and we all hope to have a new pier to be proud of.

We’ve all heard of the old saying ‘A bad workman blames his tools’. However, it is they who are leading the council. They are running this town. That is what they were elected to do.

They should stop blaming the Government, stop spending so much time trying to turn us all against the Coalition and start doing their job.

When it comes to the nuts and bolts of running Hastings, our councillors would be best advised to leave their party allegiances at the door of the town hall chamber. It is time to stop making excuses and focus on delivering services.
