Council did five consultations

I AM sorry Mr Ingleton is confused by the system, especially as I know he attends the vast majority of our planning committee meetings (Letters, Observer, April 18).

Hastings Borough Council has undertaken a significant amount of public consultation in developing the Development Management Plan. We had the initial ‘Big Map’ consultation from February to April 2010, informal consultation from February to April 2012, focused consultation from July to August 2012, and formal consultations from January to April 2013 and most recently March to April 2014.

So we’ve done five separate consultations on the plan over the past four years, involving a total of around 12 months of consultation.

The latest delay was caused because the Government abolished the South East plan, and meant we had to justify our housing totals in a completely different way.

That delayed the planning strategy, and so the development plan, for reasons entirely outside our control.
