May I thank all those who contributed in so many ways to this year’s Old Town Carnival.
The ever popular and colourful pram race provided entertainment midweek and also vital financial support.
Unfortunately the takings for the pram race and the carnival were down this year, considering the perfect weather and large crowds this was surprising and will need to be addressed before the cost of running the carnival exceeds our donations to charity – one of the prime reasons for this event.
The backbone for any carnival in my opinion is enthusiasm, hard work and participation which has never been in short supply in any Old Town Carnival Committee but public participation is sometimes in very short supply when you consider at the last AGM, less than 20 people bothered to attend. This is not participation but apathy.
An Old Town Carnival club paying a small fee with voting rights at the AGM would possibly provide extra help for our small, hard-pressed committee. These are personal thoughts only.
Lastly I did not complete the Jimmy Read memorial bike ride this year but I did participate.
