Building work collapse a cause for concern?

I WRITE with regards to the collapse of a small section of exterior cladding on the Lecture Theatre element of the UCH2 Building at 9.40pm on Sunday, August 7, currently under construction for the University of Brighton in Hastings.

In accordance with our strict health and safety policy, main contractor McLaren Construction has carried out a thorough inspection on site with the structural engineer.

The debris fell within the McLaren site hoarding zone, with no debris encroaching onto the public areas or local roads.

The affected area of the project has been cleared and work on site is continuing as planned. McLaren Construction is committed to delivering the highest level of health and safety standards across our entire company.

When complete, the £7.5m development in Hastings will provide the University of Brighton with world-class teaching space for nursing courses and a range of new science degrees, plus an additional, larger, lecture theatre as well as a new home for its student services and the Students’ Union.
