Brownies had a Funtastic time

BROWNIES from Hastings recently joined 3,000 Brownies and their leaders for a fun-packed weekend at Butlins Bognor to launch the Big Brownie Birthday Celebrations.

The girls enjoyed many activities including circus skills, disco dancing, group singing, and treasure hunts.

To help celebrate the weekend a special birthday cake was constructed from 50,000 standard size Lego bricks, and was topped with 100 Lego candles. There was also a piece of real birthday cake for everyone. Every Brownie and leader who attended this weekend will have fond memories of this celebration weekend, which was made possible by a large team of volunteers and Butlins staff.

Funtastic was a fantastic opportunity for the Brownies to start the Big Brownie Birthday year. It has given them an experience they will remember for years to come, and it was good to be part of that – I don’t think they’d ever seen so many other Brownies together before! They had loads of fun – especially when they decided to work together during team activities.

Hundreds of thousands of Girlguiding members from all over the UK are taking part in events to mark the 100th birthday of Brownies in 2014, and the Brownies of Hastings are no exception. Already planned are a residential weekend at a PGL activity centre, an activity day at the Herstmonceux Science Centre and a day trip to London. There will also be Birthday celebrations in the individual units.

A special thanks must go to all the leaders and young leaders who give up their time voluntarily to give the Brownies a fun-packed and exciting programme. We are always looking for new volunteers so if you are interested in joining our team of volunteers please visit the website for more information (details below).

Brownies opens a world of exciting challenges to girls aged seven to 10, giving them the space to try new things and make brilliant friends. Girls take part in a hugely varied programme incorporating everything from stargazing, world issues and science to abseiling, canoeing and zipwiring.
