IN a time of freezing temperatures and snow, may I offer some optimism for the coming weeks.
My wife and I are in the process of arranging the Crowning of the Hastings May Queen, and I am delighted to say that, after many years, the ceremony will revert to its origins in Alexandra Park on Sunday, May 5.
Part of the celebrations will be some form of reminiscence of past May Queens, and I would like to ask for help from your readers.
If anybody has any memories or photographs of previous Crownings we would be delighted to include them where possible. Perhaps if you were a May Queen we could ask you to attend the ceremony. Any information would be invaluable.
Alongside the May Queen ceremony, Bryony Leech has resurrected the children’s Garland competition for individuals and schools, and we would be interested in anything that your readers could tell us. ( Although we believe that this goes back beyond living memory). All the local schools will have information about entering.
If you have any information or photographs please call me on 01424 423389.
Let’s look forward to welcoming summer with garlands and Crowning the May Queen.
