With thoughts being sought towards development of the town centre, why not have a structure spanning the pedestrian area/crossing, perhaps of four legs, with enough room underneath to allow free flow of traffic.
The structure would support a large sphere or ball, filled with reactive-gases or comprising of light panels of different colour shades.
This would be topped with a large needle-type structure, or column, acting as a lightning conductor.
When the atmosphere is electrically charged, the structure would draw in the electricity which would then be used to either light – at random – the panels or create an aurora borealis (Northern Lights) effect inside the sphere by interacting with the gases.
Incorporated into this should be either clocks facing in each direction, or a single four-dimensional digital clock that can be viewed from any angle.
To vision; the bottom of the Eiffel Tower, supporting the O2, topped with Cleopatra’s Needle.
With a central clock.
Not only could this become a focal and meeting point, it might draw visitors to the town centre at the times when they usually leave – ie during bad weather.
Maybe the town planners, meteorologists, designers could draw up a blueprint.
