Yapton gears up for annual flower show

Yapton and District Cottage Gardeners' Society are holding their 103rd annual flower show in a marquee on the King George Playing Field in Yapton on Saturday. at 2pm.

There are 179 classes in the show covering exhibits from vegetables, fruit, flowers, floral art, handicraft, photography, domestic, wine and beer, honey and children.

Twelve trophies will be presented as well as some diplomas.

Incorporated in the show will be the British Gladiolus Society (Sussex) Show who always put on an excellent display full of colour and variety.

There will also be the launch of the first booklet in a series produced by the Yapton and Ford Local History Group which is funded by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Covering Church Road, Church Lane and the turnings off, the booklets have already been distributed to the households.

Further copies will be available to residents of Yapton and Ford at the show in The Janet Phillips Hall.

The booklets are free but a donation would be welcome.

Their will be various supporting sales and exhibits around the field and refreshments will be available in the hall.

There is also to be a grand summer draw held on the day with a first prize of 100 palong with many other attractive prizes.
