A writers’ club’s book in town has won a national award.

Hastings Writers’ Group’s anthology for 2014,

Part of the profitsm the book go to benefit two charities, Dogs for the Disabled, and the Hastings Bluebell Ridge cat rescue centre.

Stephanie Gaunt, co-ordinator of the editorial group, said: “It’s great to see the varied talents of our members, and our hard work, publicly acknowledged in this way. Our group anthologies have been shortlisted for this award several times, and we won once several years ago. The standard of our writing is increasing all the time, and another win was overdue.”

In addition to the anthology success, the group’s current chairman, Jill Fricker, won two further National Association of Writer’s Groups individual awards, for poetry and for a picture book story. Another member, Roz Balp, was also shortlisted in the poetry competition. Hastings Writers’ Group meets fortnightly at the White Rock Hotel. The membership includes published writers as well as people who are just starting out. The group is currently over-subscribed, but should be recruiting new members in January.
