Worthing's newest charity shop opened by oldest client

WORTHING charity Guild Care's oldest client has opened its newest charity shop.

Phyllis Bish, 104, who lives at Guild Care's Irene House in Parkfield Road, Tarring, cut the ribbon at the new shop in Rowlands Road on Thursday, October 4.

This new shop replaces Guild Care's branch in Portland Road, which will close in November.

Julia Johnson, from Guild Care, said: "The new shop is much bigger than the one in Portland Road, giving us the space to sell clothes, furniture and lots more.

"Phyllis felt really special to be opening the shop.

"She is our oldest resident and is a really interesting lady."

Phyllis became a teacher at 16 during World War I, and delivered milk by horse and cart for four years during World War II.

It was during which time she says she was shot at by a German fighter aircraft.
