Worthing school children on three-mile sponsored walk

CHILDREN determined to get fit and healthy put on their walking shoes tomorrow (Friday, December 4).

Youngsters from the Worthing-based MEND scheme (mind, exercise, nutrition, do it) took part in a three-mile sponsored walk along the seafront, with the aim of raising at least 250 for Children in Need.

MEND looks at helping reduce obesity among children and improve their health, with parents agreeing a sponsored walk was the perfect way to raise cash for the good cause.

She said: "Because it was Children in Need and MEND is about getting children fitter and eating correct food we are all doing this walk. It is by the children for children.

"It is about showing good food is not just boring, but can be fun."

He said: "It is good because we can learn what food we can't eat and what food we can eat and do lots of exercise."

Their mum Sam, 29, of Ham Road, East Worthing, admitted it was hard for the family at the beginning.

"It has changed the way we eat and it has helped get my children fit."

The 10-week course, on a Monday and Wednesday between 5.30pm and 7.30pm, is held at Downsbrook Middle School in Dominion Road. To find out more, call 01903 708437.
