Women clinch their tough target at Classic Tour

Female members of Bognor Regis Motor Club have beaten the recession.

The women motoring enthusiasts staged another successful event to take their total fundraising for charity to a staggering quarter of a million pounds.

The important funding milestone was reached with the latest Regis Classic Tour.

Ali Green, one of the organisers, said: "We are delighted to say we had another terrific tour. We have raised more than 25,000 so far and rising."

This contribution to the charities, Against Breast Cancer and Orchid '“ Fighting Male Cancer, takes the total raised by the tours to 250,000. All this has gone to charity cancers.

The event was staged recently for its 12th year and took 57 classic cars and their drivers and passengers around Shropshire.

The vehicles featured such iconic motoring names as Alvis SD 12/50, Sunbeam Alpine Mk III, Austin Healey 3000 BN7, Triumph TR4 and Ford Zodiac Mk III. They covered eight decades of driving from 1927 to 2006.

The tourists included regulars Middleton couple Howard and Rosalind Peters, Dave and Jean Brooks from Aldwick and Chichester couple David and Linda Stone.

They began their three days of non-competitive motoring fun for a good cause at a hotel near Shrewsbury.

Their driving took them to historic Ludlow and back as well as the Ironbridge Gorge and the RAF Museum at Cosford.

One of the highlights of the event, as usual, was the spectacular auction with a range of donated lots. This raised more than 4,000 alone.

The tour was revived in the mid-1990s to recreate the club's annual outings of the Fifties.
