Woman attacked on St Leonards seafront

A woman was attacked in the early hours of the morning in St Leonards.

The victim, in her 20s, was assaulted near Marina on Sunday, March 24.

It is alleged that an argument ensued during which the woman was hit by a man several times before he ran off with her mobile phone.

Police said the woman then lay down in the middle of the road to attract the attention of passing motorists before going to a local pub where the incident was reported to police at 1.20am.

Detective Constable Paul Harrison, from East Sussex CID, said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who remembers seeing a woman being attacked by a man on the seafront. If you have any information that could help us with our enquiries then please call 101 quoting serial 0095 of 24/3. Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

At the time of the incident the victim was wearing a grey tracksuit top with blue jeans. She had long dark brown hair which was worn in a messy up do. The man was white, 6ft 2ins tall, slim, with short dark hair.

A 25-year-old man from St Leonards has since been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and robbery and has been bailed pending further enquiries until Tuesday, April 30.
