The Surviving Winter Sussex 2012 appeal has been launched in support of older and vulnerable people at risk this winter.
Sussex Community Foundation collects donations and distributes them to vulnerable people and the groups that support them across Sussex.
The campaign is partnered by Saga.
Kevin Richmond, chief executive of Sussex Community Foundation, said: “Winter can be a dangerous time for Sussex’s older people.
“There are an estimated 5,634 households in fuel poverty in Hastings District and around half of those include somebody over 60.
“If you are not fuel-poor, think about donating some or all of your Winter Fuel Payment.
“You could help an older person to survive this winter and any money you donate will be spent locally.”
Fuel poverty is defined as when a household spends more than 10 per cent of its disposable income on fuel.
Those who receive a Winter Fuel Payment that they feel they do not need, can make a donation at www.localgiving.com/sussexcf or sent a cheque payable to “Sussex Community Foundation”, to Surviving Winter Sussex 2012, Sussex Community Foundation, Falcon Wharf, Railway Lane, Lewes, BN7 2AQ.
