A competition to come up with a name and logo for the proposed Business Improvement District has been launched.

Businesses are currently working with consultants Revive & Thrive with the aim of becoming a Business Improvement District (BID).

Now, the town centre businesses leading the work are running a competition inviting people to design a name and a logo which explains what the BID will mean for Hastings. Dave Padmore, chairman of the steering group, said: “We think the Hastings BID will really help all of us with an interest in the town centre, helping businesses, the community and indeed everyone who works or shops here.

“We really want people to get involved in the project from the beginning, which is why we want help in developing a name and an idea for a logo for our BID.

“They should reflect what is special about our town centre and capture its uniqueness. The winner of the best name and logo will each win a hamper worth more than £100. But the main prize will be seeing your entries representing an organisation that will be taking Hastings town centre into an even brighter future.”

Hastings could see £1m of improvements if companies agree to become a BID, which will be voted on next autumn.

If agreed, businesses would pay an additional amount of their rateable value, which would then be invested back into improving the town centre and to secure other grants. Improvements might include business support, a better environment and improved security.

Names and logos should be sent to hastings@reviveandthrive.co.uk by January 15 and the winner will be announced on February 1.

Hastings BID Steering Group holds its first open meeting on Monday (November 23) from 6pm at University of Brighton, Priory Street.Ring Mark Barnes, of Revive & Thrive on 03330 124285.
