WILLLINGDON FLOWER CLUB: The meeting of the Willingdon Flower Club was held on a beautiful summer’s day on August 5. The meeting began with information on fire exits, as usual and notices of past and forthcoming events. The notices were interrupted when suddenly an alarm sounded for the fire drill and everyone exited the hall in record time. After a roll call the members returned and the chairman continued her report.

The demonstration was by Chris Campbell-Dykes called Supermarket Dash. She gave an interesting and colourful demonstration which included a wide variety of designs. We were told that all the flowers had been purchased at a Supermarket and the foliage was mainly from her garden emphasising that it is not always necessary to buy expensive flowers. The first imaginative design was Pretty in Pink using stocks in a home-made sisal container on a glass vase decorated with wire. The designs were from more traditional ideas leading up to a more modern one on circular rings and finishing with Woodland Theme with logs, fern and Irises. The whole demonstration was given in a good humoured and relaxed style which rubbed off on the audience who had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. The lovely exhibits were raffled at the end and many delighted members were able to take their winnings home. The meeting concluded with a range of delicious home- made cakes and tea.
