West Sussex schools committed to working together

PRINCIPALS, head teachers and chairmen of governors from schools and colleges have signed an agreement to work together.

Meeting at Northbrook College in Worthing, the schools and colleges signing the Collaboration Statement of Commitment included the Shoreham Academy, the Littlehampton Academy, Steyning Grammar School, Worthing College and Northbrook College.

Worthing's five high schools - Worthing High, Davison, Durrington High School, Chatsmore Catholic High School and St Andrew's High School for Boys - also signed the statement.

The document signed states: "We are committed to working together, and with other agencies, to provide the best learning and secure the best life chances for all of the young people in our care."

The schools and colleges believe the statement marks the beginning of a new era for education and training in the region.

The different institutions teaching 11-19 year-olds are committing themselves to increasing opportunities and better meeting the needs of young people.

The statement also commits the schools and colleges to plan together in areas such as new curriculum opportunities, meeting the needs of vulnerable and challenging students and effective transition between school and college with "impartial information, advice and guidance".

Peter Corrigan, principal of Worthing College and chairman of the group, said: "The agreement also commits us to work together in the future to improve exam results, the curriculum offer and the skill level of school and college leavers."
