WEST Sussex A&E services likely to be saved

ACCIDENT and emergency services seem certain to remain at all three hospitals in West Sussex it has been revealed at a county health and scrutiny committee- but the future of maternity services still remains in the melting pot.

Dr. Peter Hayward, consultant in public health and member of the PCTs' Clinical Reference Advisory Group (CRAG), told the committee meeting that CRAG's proposal includes the retention of acute medicine and accident and emergency services at all three hospitals in West Sussex.

This particular proposal has been endorsed by top medical man Sir Graeme Catto as being the best option for the county in future reconfiguration.

The hospitals are St Richard's in Chichester, Worthing & Southlands and Princess Royal in Haywards Heath.

Committee chairman Peter Griffiths said: "We were pleased to hear that A&E is likely to be retained but we do feel that this message needs to get out to the public. People need to know how far local clinicians have developed their plans since the original proposals were launched last year."
