West St Leonards Townswomen’s Guild

AS usual we have enjoyed a busy time in the past few weeks.

Following our AGM in March when a new committee was elected, we enjoyed cheese and wine and other light refreshments. Some of our members recently went on an outing to the James Dean Pottery at Peasmarsh where they had great fun decorating mugs and ornaments - others of us had great fun seeing their results.

In early April a group of us attended a Thanksgiving Service in Oxford to mark the 85th anniversary of the Townswomen’s Guild and in June we shall be travelling to Cardiff to our national AGM and this trip will include a five-day holiday break.

We are now looking forward to a Coffee and Gateaux evening, a Strawberry and Cream Tea, a Mystery Supper outing, and a fish and chip supper followed by crazy golf. These are just a few of the events planned for the coming year.

In April our speaker was Ken Brooks who gave us a very interesting insight into the history of the cinemas in Hastings and St Leonards, some we didn’t know even existed. We have a very varied list of speakers booked for the coming year including Ann Kramer who will be talking on Women and War, John Schofield - The Magical Victorians and Jackie Marsh Hobbs - The Brighton Pavilion.

The East Sussex Federation will be holding a Roaring 20s Day at St Peters Community Centre, Bexhill on May 12 which is expected to be great fun.

We meet on the second Wednesday of each month (except January) at the Arthur Easton Centre, Upper Maze Hill, St Leonards. In addition to our monthly meetings we have many other groups you may be interested in joining - books, crafts, drama, social studies, walking, some days out and theatre trips.

We are a friendly group and always pleased to welcome visitors and hopefully new members. Any further information can be obtained from Jackie on 01424 439554.
