Waldron

ROAD REPAIRS: The road closure signalled last Tuesday for the next day duly happened and some of the work was finished as promised by Friday. There were a couple of hitches. First, the team seemed to run out of tarmac half way up Rocks Lane, so the promised resurfacing up to Whitehouse Lane wasn't done. That means we still have some fairly bad holes beside the War Memorial The second hitch was more serious when a tarmac-bearing lorry was reversed into our lovely lychgate outside the church, pushing it off kilter, removing some of the beautiful Horsham stone roof tiles and upsetting the balance of the archway. It is now a dangerous structure and probably a full rebuild will be necessary before it can be used again.

SEPTEMBER SUNDOWNER: Sounds like a mouth-watering event coming our way on Sunday September 4 from 6pm to 10pm, a perfect end to the summer holidays. Laura Tenison, owner of Old Glebe, has generously offered the use of her marquee in the garden for an event in aid of Friends of Waldron Churches. Tickets are £10 each and will include wine and cheese, a fashion show and music and much more (according to the cheerful flyers and posters). Further details are yet to be settled but tickets are already available by phoning 01435 862065. Don’t delay buying your tickets as this looks like the must-be-there event of late summer in Waldron.

SERVICES: This Sunday both morning services will be held at St Bartholomew’s. Holy Communion will be at 8am and Sung Eucharist will be at 10am. Evensong will be at 6pm at All Saints’.
