Caroline Cornford, from Hastings, is fronting promotional material during Diabetes Week for Diabetes UK.

She said: “The local fundraising effort takes place as part of Diabetes Week (June 14-20) and I need four people who would like to give up some of their spare time during that weekend to fill the remaining slots on my roster.

“I signed up as a Team Leader for the Big Collection because I have Type 2 diabetes and I hope that I can help others who have diabetes and would like to support the excellent work being carried out by both charities.

“As a collection volunteer you will make a real difference to people with diabetes or heart disease and those at risk of developing them.

So why not spend an hour or so of the weekend collecting money for health conditions that affects one in 20 people?

“With your help we could make a real difference to the 3 million people in the UK living with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and also help find the 850,000 more who remain undiagnosed with Type 2.

Michael Gebbie, chairman of the Bexhill Diabetes Support Group, said: “Unfortunately the number of Diabetes patients is expanding each year, with over 3 million cases to date. This consumes about 10% of the NHS annual health care budget (£11 billion) .”
