Volunteers needed to build the pier’s float

Hastings Pier Charity is looking for volunteers to help build the pier’s float for this year’s Old Town Carnival.

Designed by local company, Radiator Arts, which will be on hand to help and inspired by the past and future of the pier, every volunteer will take home a souvenir ‘seagull hat’ and be invited to carry the float on carnival day, which is on Saturday, August 2.

Sessions are particularly suited to families and take place tomorrow afternoon (Saturday) and on Monday (July 28) and Tuesday (July 29), morning and afternoon.

The sessions are all free thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and it is best to book via email at learning@hpcharity.co.uk, or by visiting the pier website at www.hpcharity.co.uk or dropping into The Hub on the promenade.

Hundreds of investors including some from as far away as Australia have already raised more than £580,000 to help secure the future of the new pier.

The recent Hastings Pier Charity share scheme attracted more than 3,000 investors. Shares were available for a six-month period from last October to April. The £14 million renovation work started earlier this year.
