The event is organised by Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) & Ecoverand who are appealing for community beach clean volunteers nationwide to join them in the quest for plastic free coastlines. Head of Community & Engagement for SAS, Dom Ferris said:; “By collecting plastic that would pollute our oceans and converting it into functional packaging, SAS and Ecover will raise awareness about using plastic conscientiously and more sustainably. Our volunteers are committed to tackling plastic pollution on their beaches for as long as it takes but each and every one of them longs for a day when beach cleans are just a fond memory and we truly have Plastic Free Coastlines!”

There are over 400 Big Spring Beach Cleans registered across the UK and 56 on the South Coast. Locally volunteers are needed to join Colin Darbyshire to help clean the stretch of beach from Hastings pier along Bottle Alley. He said: “This stretch of beach hasn’t been tackled before and having walked by recently, I noticed a whole range of rubbish. This ranged from rope, through to bottles, cans and more. Please join us and meet at the entrance to the pier at 11am. I will be supplying gloves and bags!” For more information call Colin on 07904789011 or visit: www.sas.org.uk/events
