Virgin Galactic challenge for St Richard's

St. Richard's Catholic College is one of over 200 secondary schools which took part in this year's Virgin Galactic Challenge.

Run in association with the Royal Air Force and the Royal Aeronautical Society, teams were tasked with designing and producing a model, and creating a marketing package for a souvenir of a Virgin Galactic flight.

The teams combined their scientific knowledge of forces and gravity with design and marketing concepts in this exciting competition.

In early March, Team Science from St. Richard's submitted their portfolio for consideration by the judges andwere delighted to beselected to compete in the regional finals of the competition.

The Team memberswere Georgia Lea, Rosie Matt, Hannah Richards, Isaac Andrews, Callan MacDonald and Sam Cotterill and they were invited to present their idea to a 'Dragon's Den' style panel of judges at RAF Odiham last week.

RAF Odiham is home to the UK Chinook squadron and in addition to a fun day out, the Team were given a guided tour of a chinook and a goody bag of RAF memorabilia.

While the Team came second on the day and will not proceed any further in the competition, they did well to be finalists in the whole of the South East region, effectively making it to the last 32 of a national competition.
