Village flower show still popular as ever

With more than 200 entries, including some outstanding exhibits, this show concluded an extremely successful 2007 season for the society.

The superb quality of the dahlia exhibits in the hall not only displayed a wide array of colours but also attracted a lot of interest from visitors.

Although dahlias dominated the cut flower section, there were many top-quality, colourful but smaller exhibits on show, such as gladiolus and fuchsia florets.

Down one side of the hall, the floral art section provided very colourful competition to the dahlia classes and although fewer in number, drew nearly as much interest from visitors due to the skill and artistic imagination shown by exhibitors.

A large number of classes were allocated to vegetables and, despite the miserable summer, these classes attracted some excellent entries, thus reflecting the hard work of the exhibitors.

The novelty classes featured a number of extremely long runner beans.

The domestic section had a wide range of appetising exhibits, demonstrating the culinary expertise of the society's members.

Many visitors stayed to enjoy the tea/coffee and cake.

A number of visitors felt this had been the best autumn show for years.

At the end of the afternoon, chairman Mrs Joan Jackson thanked all those who had helped make the show such a success. Finally, after drawing the winning raffle tickets, the cups and trophies were presented to the winners.
