VIDEO: Stream turns to river in Hastings floods

A small stream in a St Leonards back garden has become a raging river due to the downpour today (Monday, August 24) with many other flooding incidents across the town.

Barbara Sendall, of Upper Glen Road, is worried because her garden flooded badly in 2009 and believes it may well happen again.

There had been a weather warning for heavy rain issued by the Met Office earlier today and a flood alert for Hollington stream, close to Ms Sendall’s home.

She is concerned because she spent 13 months out of her house in the floods six years ago and spent thousands of pounds on repairs.

“I don’t know what to do,” she said.

“The water came up to the grass in 2009 but we were flooded because Sedlescombe Road floods and it came down Wadhurst Close, over the pavement, into the drive and through the house so every room in the house was affecting.”
