VIDEO: “Robot surgeon” arrives at Eastbourne hospital

A state of the art surgical robot has arrived at Eastbourne’s DGH.

The £1 million machine has been provided by the Friends of the Eastbourne Hospital and will be used by surgeons principally for patients requiring major prostatic cancer surgery – the most common cancer in men.

Robotics gives greater precision, less tissue damage, blood loss, less postoperative discomfort and quicker recovery.

Medics say it will create a centre of excellence and benefit patients from the whole of East Sussex and parts of neighbouring counties. At a cost of £1,000,000, the Friends will need the support of the local community in theirfundraising activities.
