Fire crews reported the blaze appeared to have been started deliberately, a police spokesperson said. Fire services were called to the fire at 9.50pm and stayed until 12.40am, combating the fire with two breathing apparatus, one hose reel and a jet.

Two crews from Hastings were joined by one from Bexhill and one from Battle at the scene.

A crew was sent back to the site this morning to ensure the fire was out, as is standard practice with larger incidents, a fire service spokesman added.
