The day also linked in with Age UK’s Spread the Warmth campaign which raises awareness of the risks and issues that older people face during winter.

Lawrence Mallyon, organiser of the event and community fund raiser for Horsham District Age UK, said they hoped to raise more than £3,500 with the event.

He said: “All the money raised today will go straight back into services in the Horsham district.

“Last year was our first event and we raised £3,500.

“We have added the pop up shop this year so we should be able to make more this time around.

“The cost of running the charity’s main flag ship services last year was around £55,000 and that is entirely funded by donations so every bit of help is needed.”

The band stand was dressed in a huge bobble hat.

Eileen Sendall, member of knitter’s corner, based in Bartholomew Way, Horsham, helped to knit the bobbles used to create a bobble hat for the band stand.

She said: “We’ve been knitting bobbles since just after Christmas. We didn’t have much time to get it done so we were knitting as quickly as we could.

“It was brilliant we enjoyed doing it.”
