Victim of tragic rail accident in St Leonards named

THE railway worker who died in a tragic accident at a St Leonards depot in the early hours last Saturday morning (May 24) has today been named.

Roger Lower, 46, of Amherst Road, is believed to have been electrocuted after he fell onto a live line while cleaning a train at West Marina Depot in St Leonards at 3.15am on Saturday.

The depot is owned and managed by Southeastern and the incident is now being investigated by the Office of Rail Regulation.

A spokesperson from the Office of Rail Regulation said: “Office of Rail Regulation inspectors are investigating this fatal incident at St Leonards West Marina Depot.

“Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic incident.

“We will be working with British Transport Police and the rail companies involved to establish the cause of the incident and determine whether there was a breach of safety law.”
