VANDALS have attacked three Royal Mail boxes and stolen their contents in the space of a week.
Two postboxes were attacked in Sedlescombe Road North, at the junction with Upper Church Road, and another damaged in Southwater Road in St Leonards.
The front of the box in Upper Church Road was ripped off.
Caroline Brewer, who lives in Silverhill, noticed the damage to the boxes while walking to work.
Her partner spotted the damage to the box in Southwater Road while on his way to Warrior Square station.
Miss Brewer said: “It’s just mindless wanton, vandalism. I can’t believe why anyone would want to do this.
“There are hard times at the moment so they may have been trying to get their hands on gift cards, cheques, scratchcards or even cash. I think there needs to be more protection for boxes these days. Maybe they should be built in secure walls where they cannot be attacked so easily.
“It might also be worth training CCTV cameras on them so the attackers know they are being watched.” A spokeswoman for Royal Mail said she would investigate the attacks.
