Valiant display from battling Blues

Sidley United gave a decent account of themselves against the professionals of Brighton & Hove Albion reserves on Wednesday night.

The Sussex County League Division One side produced a resolute display to restrict the Sussex Senior Cup holders to a 3-0 victory and just four shots on target in this third round tie.

Albion inevitably dominated possession throughout and their football was a joy to watch, but they struggled to penetrate a determined Sidley defence which was superbly marshalled by captain Danny Spice.

After a great save from Gavin Bourne and Sean Kelly having an overhead kick saved at the other end, Albion opened the scoring through Norwegian striker Torbjorn Agdestein in the 26th minute.

Two goals in five second half minutes ended Sidley’s hopes. Argentinian midfielder Agustin Battipiedi made it 2-0 with a low free kick which went in off the post and Chris Holroyd tapped home Gary Hart’s pass for the third.

A full report and reaction will appear in Friday’s Bexhill Observer.
