Urgent call for village fete volunteers

Helpers are urgently needed to keep Middleton's village fete alive.

Several vacancies have arisen on the traditional event's organising committee, because some helpers are unavailable due to other commitments, to ensure the annual occasion continues to be a success.

The six remaining volunteers have organised an open meeting next weekto attract newcomers to boost their numbers.

The session will take place at 7.30pm next Thursday in the small hall at the Jubilee Hall.

The fete raises thousands of pounds each year for a good cause. Last year's brought in 2,500 for the cancer day unit appeal at St Richard's Hospital at Chichester.

It is likely this year's event '“ on July 29 '“ will be used to raise money for work to Jubilee Hall.

Help is needed early in the morning to get the playing field and the stalls ready. Relief assistance is also required to staff the stalls and to help clear up the field afterwards.

Fete chairman Joyce Weston said: 'The fete is a well-attended event and is a highlight of the summer for many local people.

'The fun fair is good attraction and is the only fun fair allowed on the field during the year.

'The craft fair which takes place in the main hall during the afternoon always attracts many local crafts with a variety of goods on sale at reasonable prices.

'The arena events are always popular and we have the re-enactment group setting up camp again and giving demonstrations throughout the afternoon.'

Anyone unable to go along to next Thursday's meeting can contact Mrs Weston on 01243 583298.
