The woman was taken to hospital suffering from a leg injury.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said the incident is not being treated as a suspicious.

Train operator Southern closed the lines before reopening them at 8.10am.

There are currently delays of up to 20 minutes on the line, with the disruption expected to last until around 10am.

A spokesperson for Southern said: “We did have buses accepting our tickets between Brighton and Eastbourne and Southeastern are taking our tickets as well because of the disruption.”
